Tape-bound closing seam with automatic finish for DAB components
Cutting, sewing and thread finishing in one continuous sequence: the video shows how the contour of a DAB component is automatically closed using a tape-bound overlap seam.
From tape cutting to finished closing seam: DAB perimeter seam in detail
For safety-relevant components such as a driver airbag (DAB), it is not enough for a seam simply to hold. What matters is that it comes out exactly the same across the entire production series, especially along the complex contour of an airbag cut piece.
Busche addresses this with a combination of automatic tape cutting and a 2-needle chainstitch seam with a parallel offset overlap. A ribbon tape is bound into the seam on both the top and bottom side along the entire contour. A sensor-guided cutting process ensures the material is separated exactly at the required point. At the start and end of the seam, an automatic thread cutter finishes the chainstitch thread connection, producing a defined, repeatable seam finish without any manual rework.
The result is a closing seam that does not vary from one component to the next, an important factor wherever repeatability matters beyond pure appearance.
